I hope everyone survived the snow storm yesterday without too much hassle. Today and tomorrow will be nice reliefs from the almost whiteout conditions we had just 24 hours ago. The down side over the next few days is going to be the very strong winds that are settling in behind the system. Make sure you cover up the hands and ears when you go outside as the wind chills will be very low.

Forecast for 2/15 and 2/16/2007
Thursday: Mostly sunny and cold with a high near 21. Winds will be 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Thursday Night: Increasing clouds with a chance for some light flurries. Low near 10. Winds continue to be strong at 15-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

Friday: Partly cloudy and windy. High of 25. Winds 15-25 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy. Low of 12. Winds settling at 10-15 mph.

Tuesday, February 13, 2007

If you looks outside you can finally see our first snowstorm. Things for today will get a bit interesting depending on the actual track of the system. If the system stays inland then we will see a changeover from snow to sleet and freezing rain, therefore getting less snow. However if the system if off the coast a bit then we have a good chance at some considerable accumulations. Also there will be strong winds associated with this system causing bitter cold wind chills.

Winter Storm Warning is in effect for today

Forecast for 2/14 and 2/15/2007
Wednesday: Snow and freezing rain in the morning. Then additional snow, sleet and freezing rain throughout the afternoon. Snow may be heavy in the morning hours. High of 32. Accumulations between 4-8 inches. Strong winds of 15-20 mph expected.

Wednesday Night: Continued snow, sleet, and freezing rain tapering off after midnight. Additional accumulations of about an inch. Low of 18. Winds will continue to be strong at 20-25 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny skies with a slight chance for an afternoon flurry. High of 23. Winds 20-30 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy with decreasing winds. Low of 10. Winds 10-15 mph.

Monday, February 12, 2007

So we might actually get a snow storm this winter. It looks right now that we will have a nice blanket of snow when we go to bed on Wednesday night. However some models are still putting some of the precipitation as sleet and not as snow which will cause the accumulations to be lower. The storm should move its way into the area late tomorrow night and have a nice coating by the time everyone wakes up. The winds will pick up behind the storm so watch for blowing snow tomorrow night.

Please check back tomorrow for an update as the new model runs become available.

This afternoon and evening will continue to be clear skies and good weather. Tomorrow night will be the start of a snowstorm that should last through Wednesday bringing snow and sleet. Once again we had another sunny and cool day today. The same pattern should remain in place through Sunday night with partly cloudy skies during the day and clear skies at night, with temperatures in the 30s and 10s respectively. With the wind out of the west there is a slight chance for some flurries from the lake effect snow from the Great Lakes/ Upstate New York region but that is very slight, just don't get alarmed if you see a snow flake or two the next few days.

For a little fun.. here is a wind chill chart and converter for you to play around with....
Wind Chill Chart

I hope you've been enjoying the sun, and if you haven't there is plenty to come. The weather outlook for the week hasn't changed much. The rest of the week into the weekend looks to be sunny and cool with highs below freezing. The mountains should be able to make plenty of snow and this weekend will be beautiful for skiing. The clear skies at night will allow any standing water from any snow melting to refreeze, so be careful on the roads.

Forecast for 2/7/2007
Today will see partly cloudy skies clearing up to a starry night. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 20s during the day and then dip to 9 degrees overnight. Wind chills will not be as harsh today as the winds will die down to about 10mph, without too many strong gusts. Enjoy another good winter day!
